Awarded in 2014: Since graduating from SPU in 2016 with the Robert B. McMillen Scholarship, I had the fortunate opportunity of being able to move back to my hometown, Sacramento California. There I worked at FUEL Creative Group, a smaller local agency as a graphic designer. Nine months later, I changed paths and worked as the in-house designer for Pho Hoa and Jazen Tea, a world-wide Vietnamese franchise. Both opportunities helped me to quickly grow in my career and learn so much about the industry and myself.
About a year ago though, I found my dream job at Gilmour Craves, a web-focused agency in San Francisco. Since working starting there February 2018, I’ve been able to grow my skill set in both web and UX design, two things I’m very passionate about. If it wasn’t for the scholarship I received, I am certain that I would never have been as confident as I am today to take chances, seek out opportunities, and push myself to accomplish more than I thought capable. I am so grateful for the Robert B. McMillen foundation and cannot thank them enough for enabling me to grow and truly love what I do.
